“the illusion of reality”

I would like to introduce myself, my name is Marcel Kaijen, born (1958) and raised in the Netherlands. I’ve been painting since 1995 and tried all sorts of styles and techniques. I have learned to focus on various styles I’ve grown fond of and match my character.

The style I mostly use for my paintings consists of large (colorful) brushstrokes, applied beam-wise, which are used to create abstracted representations of nature and landscapes. Solid bars (poutres): hence the name "Art Des GrossesPoutres". Or “Poutreïsme” ... a nod to Pointillism.

Shapes, colors and proportions are important in my work as a painter. Each “poutre” needs to be the right color and in the right place. Abstract work (illusion) while a hint of familiarity remains(reality). May the journey of looking at my paintings be a pleasant one.
